Memory Foam Inserts

In addition to our conventional foam inserts, we also provide hospitals and medical centers with our “MEMORY FOAM” inserts. This material has been tested and proven to reduce impact breakage associated with tube systems. These inserts are designed for all pneumatic tube carriers used in 4” and 6” hospital pneumatic systems.

4" Carrier Systems - Memory Foam Insert for 4" Hospital Carrier - Part Number H4 Memory

Test Results: 1000 IV containers forces are reduced at least 63 fold. 250 ml IV containers will see at least a 25 fold force reduction.

Recommended use is one pair on port end of IV containers. For smaller objects, the use of two pair of inserts is recommended.

6" Carrier Systems - Memory Foam Insert for 6" Hospital Carrier - Part Number H6 Memory

Test Results: 1000 IV container forces are reduced at least 75 fold. 250ml container forces are reduced by at least 25 fold.

Background:

Hospitals commonly use pneumatic tube systems to conveniently and efficiently move health care items throughout their facility. Typical systems are either 4” or 6” in diameter. Contents of the carriers are exposed to the largest forces as the carriers stop at the receiving station. The forces can exceed 100g in the travel direction of the carrier. In particular, IV pneumatic carriers have the hardest time surviving these forces when the carrier arrives with the container in a ports down position. A system of foam inserts has been optimized to cushion carrier contents from these high forces.

G Forces:

G force is a common method of describing forces applied to objects. A 2 lb IV container sitting on a table top is subjected to 1g of force. This same container subjected to 100g’s has 200 lbs of pressure applied during the time it is stopping in the pneumatic tube system. It experiences a 100 fold increase in force during that instant.
